Until We Meet Again

I was a scared little girl when you came into this world, not knowing what motherhood meant. A teenage statistic. I vowed when I birthed you, I would never want you to feel it. You didn't cry, just looked around the room, wide eyed and in awe. Not afraid of your new surroundings, taking it all in. Much of your life you've been that way, observing and fearless. You've never met a stranger and would talk to people in the grocery store as a child, especially those who looked alone. You danced and sang to MC Hammer at the school talent show, signed up yourself. Navigated your way in a school and culture of people who didn't look like you with a smile on your face.

You've tried everything of interest; from scuba diving to hip hop dance to Thai style fighting. Riding dirt bikes so young, you still couldn't pronounce R's correctly. Wrestling grown men at 14 and still getting up after each defeat, again and again. While learning life isn't always "fair", you keep your head up and your shoulders back. I Have yet to meet someone who didn't like you between your sunny disposition or your dance moves, you're a person who always chooses to look at the sun and not the rain. That never changed.

Edward says you "got loads of self confidence " and I'm here to tell you that will get you the farthest in life if you remember you can do ANYTHING. Determined to be better. Courage is a part of becoming a man, taking risks, even when you're scared. The real test, is when you fail, having the tenacity to get up with that courage and try again. Navigating becoming an adult can be difficult, knowing you have the will to keep pushing forward is the greatest gift you can give to yourself. The world was yours.

I used to think that loving someone was understanding them. You've taught me different. Your methods and movements through the universe are unconventional and so intrinsically different than mine, my heart grasps what the mind can't . I have learned that loving someone is simply seeing them. Your kind soul and forever loving spirit makes me view world through the eyes of rose colored glasses. What you choose to see is the good, the energy that makes life magical. When the world becomes bigger than you, remember this is what makes you special. If you wait for the moment you understand a person - you might just miss out on the beautiful chance to love them.

I hope to live my life with the lessons you've taught me. Forever my little boy Damon. Until we meet again.
